KRISS' ELECTION RECOMMENDATIONS
Real Policies, Real Change.
.We need truly affordable housing policy prioritizing units at 10%, 20%, and 30% Area Median Income, to create housing for homeless residents, the disabled community and seniors on fixed incomes. Currently most "affordable housing" policies create a small number of units at 50% or 80 % Area Median Income. My 27 point Short Term Housing Action Plan was delayed seven months before Council voted to refer it for study.
.Thirty five percent of Berkeley Police calls are Mental Health related. Social workers or mental health professionals are less expensive, and better suited to help. This would free up more Police Officers to address violent crime and Walk the Beat.
.Public Restrooms are essential for homeless residents and for customers of local businesses alike. $800,000 was transferred from proposed commercial district public restrooms, and never replenished.
.Low income Detox programs are urgently needed.
.Consideration of Navigation Centers, like those in San Francisco.
.Increase coordination and/or consolidation of multiple non-profit service providers.
.Expanding short term warming centers are a valuable intermediate step to address the immediate urgency.
.New laws accomplish little. When small businesses call in, they are often told it is "Low priority" and it may take 30 to 60 minutes to get a response. If the homeless do get arrested, it costs money to Berkeley, Alameda County, District Attorneys, Sherriff, Public Defenders and clogs up crowded court calendars.
.We need to stop people like Capitelli from getting elected. He was the ONLY NO vote on scheduling a vote for the affordable housing fee, then he voted to reduce the fee by millions of dollars. His budget proposal slashed funding for ten non-profits.
.Use Ranked Choice Voting to elect people with real solutions. Vote for Kriss Worthington and Jesse Arreguin for Mayor.
